Ways to save money on food

Meal Plan: Take note of what you may already have, and what you need beforehand so you don’t overbuy. I always meal plan so we know exactly what we’re eating each week so nothing goes to waste. I have a little chalkboard in the kitchen which I write the meals on then I can go back to it if there’s anything I need to take out the freezer for a meal then I’ll remember.

Utilize Coupons: There are tons of ways you can do this. Whether it be your local newspaper, apps or simply printing them at home from a website. I’ve found a good one that I often use Ashleigh Money Saver which let’s you print off lots of coupons.

Make healthy choices: Eating healthier foods can actually save you money. Researchers found that when families went on weight loss diets, they not only lost weight but reduced their food budgets. The savings came from reducing portion sizes and from buying fewer of the high-calorie foods that tend to increase the amount spent at the supermarket.

Go generic: Consider buying store own brands instead of well known brands. Many grocery companies buy national-brand products made to their specifications and simply put their own label on the packaging. I always shop generic, I find the store brands are just as good if not better and way way cheaper!

Shopping in bulk: Try buying in bulk! This is a great option for large families who shop more often than most, or even a small to average size families as well. Joining a bulk shopping club like Makro’s or Costco is great for some as you must be a business owner. Amazon tend to sell Bulk and even supermarkets, my local Tesco has a Bulk buy section and the prices are really good. Bulk purchases can be a great way to save money as long as they get used.
